Strange Behavior?

I have an umbrella cockatoo and it will start doing this heavy breathing, like a dog panting, when I come close to her cage. Does anyone know what this means or why she is doing it? I have tried a few different things like picking her up and holding her, which she will very eagerly step up onto my hand for me to hold her but she will continue the "panting" behavior. I can give her a millet sprig and she will stop or spray her with a water bottle on stream, this will also make her stop.

This is probably a sexual behavior. You should not encourage this, but you also not punish her with the spray bottle either. Take her to see an avian veterinarian for a check up and she may benefit from hormone treatments.
