Strange bird behavior
by: Linda

Well, you have an abused and likely neglected bird, and there is a strong possibility that the bird is sick from one or more problems. First thing you have to do is to take your bird to an Avian(bird) Vet in your driving area. There is a link on this site for help in finding an Avian Vet if you don't know where one is.

Abused and neglected birds are special needs birds, and this one, depending on the amount of abuse and neglect needs all the patience and time you can find to give to it. The fact is, it may have been sick, all along, and the woman did not want to take it to the vet and preferred to lock it away. Screaming birds sometimes indicate birds who need food, attention or are sick and need medical help, and before doing anything further, make sure it has been thoroughly examined by Avian Vet to rule out any physical causes. Next, you need to get your bird onto a high quality organic pelleted diet, and the change from seeds takes some time. Here is a link on how to go about the change written by an Avian Vet.

Switching Birds to Pellets article

There are several kinds of organic pellets on this site, and just make sure bird has been examined and treated by Avian Vet before trying to change its diet because changes are stressful which will make matters worse.

Let us know what the Avian Vet has to say, and do not take bird to a regular dog and cat vet as they do not know how to treat birds and will make matters worse instead of better. Thank you for taking this bird because he/she needs a friend in the worst way. Birds are highly intelligent and feel a full range of emotions as well as physical pain. Locking a bird away because it is telling a person it needs attention is the worst kind of cold, outright cruelty.
