stressed lorikeet

by Kylie

Hi I have a lorikeet and we have not clipped her wings as we love to watch her fly around, she never strays, but 2 days ago she got a fright from a passing motorbike and flew off! she thankfully found her way home the following morning, but now she seems a bit low, she is still very affectionate though but I did just notice her do a little vomit of what looked like bile. Could this be from stress from being out? or is she ill?

stressed lorikeet

Your bird is not just stressed, she is also sick. Please take her immediately to an Avian Vet ONLY in your driving area and have her examined head to toe for bacterial and viral infections plus any other infections he can think of. Also she needs to be checked for parasites inside and out.

While you are at the Avian Vet's have the first 4-6 Primary Flight Feathers clipped to insure this does not happen again. Normally, when birds fly away, they do not come home at all. She can also be attacked by other birds, cats and dogs not to mention cruel, sick humans with guns.

Have just the 4-6 Primary Flight feathers clipped and these are the long ones at the ends of each wing. Do not allow them to clip any higher up because this causes chronic pain and is totally unnecessary.

Let us know what Avian Vet has to say and please keep this little one safe from now on.

Possibly sick lorikeet

The only way to determine if the bird is ill is for an avian vet to see the bird in person. There is no way to tell anything by a description over the Internet, sorry.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.
