sudden death in parakeet after sudden plucking began

by Tabitha
(Seabrook,nh)

My parakeet started plucking at it's chest today all of a sudden. We left and came home about an hour later and it was dead. Do you know if the plucking is associated with the sudden death?

Bird plucking and died
by: Tracie

I am so sorry for your loss. Most likely there was something inside hurting your bird and it was trying to get to it. Often plucking is due to bacterial infections and other internal problems.

Bacterial infections are often caused by drinking and bathing in water filled with bacteria. If you get another bird, make sure you teach it to drink from a Lixit water bottle instead of a water dish. It only takes 2 - 3 hours for water to be filled with bacteria.
