Suggestions for plucking cockatoo

I adopted a "plucking" goffins cockatoo 3 weeks ago. What organic food would you suggest? She is presently on a seed and fresh fruit/vegetable diet with Nekton S as her vitamins. I haven't brought her to the vet yet because she still is scared.

Suggestions for cockatoo plucking

How sweet that you took this bird!

First, you really need to go ahead and take the bird to an avian vet. It is going to be scared when you take it anyway, and letting it get used to your home and then upsetting it later might be more traumatic than doing it now.

Also, the plucking problem might be from an internal infection and the longer it goes the more the plucking could become a habit that it continues even after it is well.

We have some great articles on our Parrot Training page you should check out. One of the articles is the Feather Damaging Behavior article written by an avian vet.

Our avian vet suggests that you feed a high quality, no color added, pellet like Harrison's, but I would follow whatever advice your avian vet gives you.

If you do not have an avian vet, you can look for one on our Find an Avian Vet page.
