Thank you for your comments.
Unfortunately we do believe she had a health issue. This was the first seizure we witnessed. She fell of her perch and had bleed from her month. We called a vet to see what we could do as she would not move from the bottom of her cage. The vet had said that she most probably was going to pass away.

Last year she got sick and wouldn?t talk for almost a week. We didn?t realise how serious the situation was at the time because she was still lively just not speaking to us. It is such a shame on our behalf because she could have still been alive today if we got her treated.

I did want to have a necropsy undertaken but my other family members wanted to leave her in peace.

Once again thank you for your kindness and sympathy. I greatly appreciate your advice.

Cockatoo died at 23

Seizure do often cause death. 23 is young for a cockatoo. Was there a history of seizures before death or was this the first one? I think that you need to look for other causes of death or the seizure. It may be unrelated to the central nervous system, for example, inanition, hypoglycemia, infection, head trauma, and even toxins such as lead and zinc. I recommend that you have a necropsy (animal autopsy) done to determine the cause.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your cockatoo. 23 years old is not old for a cockatoo. If the bird had a seizure, yes they can die, but there had to be a health issue for it to have a seizure.

A friend of mine had a citron cockatoo that kept having seizures and found that it had a tumor of the brain. She had to have the poor bird put to sleep because it was suffering. There was nothing they could do for it.

As I said, your bird had a health issue for it to have had a seizure.

Again I'm so sorry for your loss.
