Conure hates fiance
by: Tracie

I had a similar problem with my conure that decided it loved everyone but me. I was the one the fed and cared for the conure, and it made me sad.

Here is my story and how we handled this problem...

Before doing anything, please take your bird to be examined by an Avian Vet in your driving area because birds should be seen at least once a year to make sure they are in good condition. Have Avian Vet do a throat swab to check for bacterial infection and blood work to make sure organs are working properly and to check for Viral infections. While at the Avian Vet's, have them trim the 6 long primary flight feathers on bottom ends of both wings. Do not allow them to trim up any higher because this hurts the birds and cripples them as well. Just the six long primary flight feathers at the ends of each wing will be the first step in training this bird. She cannot be allowed free flight because she will eventually attack your Lady for real, and it could be very serious.

Once that is done, you can work on training. What I think is happening here is that your bird has reached sexual maturity, thinks you are her mate and is jealous of your Lady. This is normal behavior and can be modified. Once the wings are clipped, your bird will be quick to understand she is not as FREE to reek havoc as she once was. Have your lady use a perch to get her in and out of cage, and make sure bird is kept off shoulders and away from face--yours or hers. There are some training materials on this site, and you may wish to have a conversation with some people as to what else you need do to recondition your bird. Parrots are exotic wild animals, and they will always be so, and this can cause lots of problems at maturity once they bond/mate with person of opposite sex, so you'll need some outside help with this. Avian Vet may also have some suggestions, and DO NOT allow him to give your bird hormones as these cause problems with bird's health.
