Swollen Claw

My sun carrier got tangled up in his bed and his claw was bent back and we untangled the claw now he isn't using it and its very swollen all the way up to the leg? Is it just a sprang or do we need to take him to the vet?

Bird twisted leg in fabric
by: Tracie

Dr B can not answer this question, because without examining it he can not tell if it is broken. So, "yes" you need to take the bird to an avian vet if it does not look improved tomorrow.

Find an Avian Vet

My birds love their tents, and I know they can be dangerous if they get any loose threads but I keep them anyway. The deciding factor for me is if the bird likes to chew on the tent. If a bird chews on the tent, then I don't allow one in the cage.

For the other birds, I check the tents for loose strings and fabric wear often, to make sure there is nothing for them to get caught in.
