Bird with swollen eye
by: The Avian Vet

This could be a sinus infection. You need to take your bird in to see an avian veterinarian immediately.

Swollen Red Eye

Maddi, injuries can cause redness and swelling in the eyes as can many kinds of infections. I recommend you take your bird to an Avian Vet to have her eyes looked at to make sure all is well or an infection treated.

We recommend taking ALL new birds to Avian Vet during the first few days or week they are in our homes. Moving around is stressful, and it is common for birds to contract an infection during this stressful time. Most birds coming from pet stores were sick in the store and only get worse with the stress of moving. It can also happen when buying from a private home, so a trip to Avian Vet is a must either way.

So, don't use any more home meds, and take your bird to the nearest Avian Vet in your area. Make sure you go to an Avian Vet only as dog and cat vets are not licensed or trained to treat birds and will usually do nothing or if they decide to go ahead and try to diagnose and treat, they can kill your bird because they do not know what they are doing and make incorrect diagnosis, give wrong or too much medicine and generally make everything much worse than it was before.
