My Green-Naped has a swollen stomach. His color has changed from Green to a Dark Blue/Black. What could be the problem?

Hi and thanks for writing! YOU NEED TO RUN NOT WALK TO THE NEAREST AVIAN VET SOON AS YOU CAN GET AN APPOINTMENT.

What you are describing could be kidney and/or liver failure, and depending on how long this has gone on will determine what the possible outcome is going to be. Please take him to an Avian vet in your driving area as soon as you can because this is NOT good.

As for what could have caused it, possibly a toxin of some sort unless one or more of his organs have been in trouble for a while.

This is what I'd call an emergency situation, so take him to an Avian Vet within your driving area. I don't know how NC is set for Avian Vets, and you'll need to find out quickly as your bird is not in good shape.

Let us know what vet has to say, and will keep you and your little bird in prayers that this works out for the good of all concerned.

Sick bird needs a vet NOW
by: Tracie

I am sorry your bird is sick. Dr. B can not help your bird because he can not see your bird. It is illegal for him to try to diagnose your bird over the Internet and nobody can diagnose without seeing your bird in person and running tests.

Please make an avian vet appointment right now. If you need to find a vet, please visit our Find an Avian Vet page.

Let us know how the visit goes with the vet.
