tail biting

by Jenny
(hummelstown pa)

Hi I have a pet Lovebird he is about 7 years old and recently he started fanning his tail feathers and biting at the right hand side of them will this stop on its own or is there something I should do? I don't like thinking that he is uncomfortable.
many thanks Jenny

Bird biting at tail
by: The Avian Vet

He needs to be examined by an avian veterinarian. This is often caused by a condition known as polyfolliculitis. It is a very uncomfortable condition and needs immediate care. There are other causes as well. A visit to your avian veterinarian is warranted.
