tail feathers
by: Susan

My new(conuer) bird is calm when he is close to me out of the cage..but when I put him on top of his play pen he jumps down and his tail feathers fall out he is also so rough doing flips in his new cage I worry about his feathers getting damage.he has only been with me a short time of less than a week but previous owner had him in the cage with another conuer this could be why he wants to be with me all the time what should I do I cannot be with him 24/7?

your bird could be pulling them out if it does not have that many toys, because he/she could be bored or it could just be banging aroung the cage and accidently breaking its feathers, thats what happened to my sisters bird, but her bird only lost a couple

Breaking tail feathers
by: Tracie

If your bird is in a cage that is too small, his tail feathers will get damaged when he moves around.

If this is not the case, then it is probably a nutritional problem and you need to feed your bird a healthier diet. Please read our Parrot Health article under the "Parrot Training" button on the top left of this website.

A trip to an avian vet is suggested also, just to make sure the bird is not sick.
