The cause of my bird's death?

by artist

My parakeet of 2,5 years had died today very suddenly...
She was singing happily and all of sudden was on the floor of the cage
screaming and twisting neck in seizures/convulsions.
She tried to fly, but couldn't...just closed her eyes and died.
I am so devastated...and keep wondering what was the cause of so sudden
(she was gone in 20-30 seconds) death? Please help...Thank you!

Many factors to consider for death of a bird
by: Tracie

There is no way of knowing without a necropsy being done by your vet clinic. I am sorry for your loss.

Birds should see an avian vet yearly for a well checkup. Depending on the species, the bird should be eating 60 - 80% high quality pellets, meaning not colored, not full of sugar and chemicals.

Drinking from a dish instead of a bottle can cause severe bacterial infections, unless you are cleaning the dish daily and changing the water every 4 - 6 hours.

Genetics come into play also. If the breeder didn't take their birds to an avian vet, keep breeding records, feed high quality food etc.
