The Shy Lovebirds

Lovebirds

Today I got my first pair of lovebirds. Boy!! Were they shy. At first they were in a little cage. So they stayed in a corner. When we got home we put them in a huge!!!! cage. They only started flying about when we left. When we came back they stopped. Only one flew because the other has a cut in its wing. Tonight they are sleeping next to their nest.

Birds are very scared when they come into new homes, cages, foods and people. Your birds need to be seen by an Avian Vet as soon as you can get an appointment. All new birds can and usually are harboring infections, and the Avian Vet will also check out the cut on the one's wing to make sure it does not get infected.

You can find Avian Vets in your area by using the phone book. DO NOT TAKE BIRDS TO A REGULAR DOG AND CAT VET AS THEY ARE NOT LICENSED OR TRAINED TO CARE FOR BIRDS AND WON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AS FAR AS TESTING IS CONCERNED. THEY ALSO DO KNOW THE PROPER WAY TO MEDICATE SICK BIRDS, SO THE AVIAN VET IS WHO YOUR BIRDS NEED TO SEE.

Thanks for writing and your birds will be much more likely to settle down and learn to like you and their new home after they've been seen by Avian vet and any problems taken care of.
