Bird's eyes are on the sides of their heads instead of in front like ours, so they have to tilt their heads this way and that to have any depth perception. Birds think pictures are real, so be very careful about putting up pictures of wild animals or any kind of bird, insect or animal larger or higher than they are. I had an Ariel Toucan once who had drawings of bamboo on her wall, and she'd try and land on them and slide to the floor. Any pictures around birds need to be flowers, plants, water and such so as to not frighten them.

As for sexing your budgie, young males under six months to maybe a year usually have light purple ceres which is the area where the nose holes are. Young females have blue ceres. The male's ceres change to blue when mature, and the female's change to a tan to dark brown as they mature.

Hope this helps, and thanks for writing,
Linda
