If it bled some when bit, then the red bump may be a scab which means the bite is healing underneath it.

If, however, the bump gets larger or you see signs of illness in the bird like lethargy (being tired all the time and sleeping a lot), sitting all fluffed up, lack of appetite or problems with digestion, then your bird will have to be taken to an Avian (bird) Vet in your driving area to be checked for infection.

In the meantime, I'd separate the birds into two cages because this could get very dangerous very quickly. Budgies are very aggressive little birds, and if one starts drawing blood from another, you have a big problem that can turn lethal and has.

So, for the time being anyway, separate them into two cages and keep an eye on the hurt one for signs of infection. DO NOT GIVE ANY OVER THE COUNTER MEDS EVEN THOSE FROM A PET STORE AS THEY KILL MANY BIRDS every year. Until one knows what kind or type of infection a bird has, one CANNOT GIVE IT THE CORRECT MEDICINE TO CURE IT. Always take sick birds to an Avian Vet and give them the best chance at a good life as you can.

Thanks for writing,
Linda

I am sorry to tell you, but Dr B can not tell you if it will heal or get an infection. If it does not look like it is healing properly by Monday, then make an appointment with an avian vet so it can be examined in person.
