Tired Budgie

It sounds like your bird is sick and will need to be taken to an Avian Vet to be checked out. The limp could be caused by an injury like falling or getting his foot stuck inside a small space and pulling it out too hard. Bird's bones are hollow and will break very easily with very little pressure.

So, if he is sleeping a lot and not playing then this is a serious situation, and he will not get better until you take him to an Avian Vet for an exam.

Do not take him to a regular dog and cat vet as they are not licensed or trained in the care of birds and either will do nothing or will overdose bird with meds. Since birds have no fat on their bodies, overdoses of drugs go directly to the liver to be processed, and this can cause liver damage or death or both. Some regular dog and cat vets have Avian Vets on staff, so call around and look in phone book because Avian Vets will be there in the yellow pages section.

Thanks for writing and hope your little bird gets to feeling much better in a short while. Keep us posted,
Linda

Tired bird with bad leg needs vet
by: Tracie

Yes, there is something wrong with your bird and it needs to be seen by an avian vet right away. If it is a female, it could be egg bound. No matter the gender, it could have a tumor or a disease either one.
