THE FIRST TIME NAILS ARE CUT, THEY NEED TO BE CUT BY AN AVIAN VET IN YOUR AREA. Do NOT attempt to cut them yourself the first time, especially if you don't even know how much to cut. PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH AN AVIAN VET IN YOUR DRIVING AREA, AND HAVE THEM SHOW YOU HOW TO DO IT AND HOW MUCH TO CUT AT A TIME.

It is critical you follow these instructions as birds can bleed out and die from improper nail cutting, and none of them like the nail clipping, so there is a special way they have to be handled.

Your problem is beyond "how much to cut". Please do not try to cut your bird's nails until you have seen how it is done by a professional. You will also need to have some styptic powder or pads nearby anytime you trim your birds, dogs, cats nails.

Thanks for writing, and the nail clipping will not cost much. Your new bird will also need to be checked for any infections and/or parasites while he is at the vet.
