Here is how I bathe my Amazons. I use a plastic plant sprayer bottle that you can get at WalMart. I fill it with clean, filtered warm, NOT HOT, water and spray them like that. This way, you can get your bird wet enough to clean out the nostrils, clean the feet and generally get some of the dust off without getting bird wet to the skin. I suggest you start doing this and reserve real showers for warmer weather when air conditioner is NOT on. When the AC is on, you will have the same problem with bird being chilled.

As for yelling everytime you come into room, your bird is manipulating you, and you must work on changing this behavior. If your bird does not have an outside perch, make or buy one. Then, when you come into room, and the screaming starts, ignore it for a while until bird is quiet, then just open the cage door, let bird out(NOT take out), praise his GOOD behavior, and later put bird onto the outside perch and go about your business. It will take some time, and bird will start understanding that if he yells, you will not open the cage door. Also, don't get all mad at him, just ignore him and go about your business until he quiets down. THEN reward him by simply opening cage door and not holding him yet. You can say "Good Job" once he is quiet to let him know quiet is what you want him to be until time to come out of cage. At this point, you can pick him up and let him know how proud of him you are. If he comes out of cage screaming, do not pick him up until he quiets back down.

Perches are easily made using a safe, non-toxic branch appropriate for your bird's size feet attached to another longer, thicker post with a square piece of plywood as the base. Make sure the base is heavier than the post and branch and that it is big enough so perch will stay upright and not fall over. This perch can be taken into any room except kitchen and bathroom so you bird can be in other places without being on you. Keep parrots off your shoulders because this can result in some bad injuries if bird becomes frightened and bites your face or eyes.

Stop with rewarding him for bad behavior which is what taking him out of cage and putting him on you is doing. Build and try the perch with him. Safe woods are listed on this site, and make sure wood has never been treated with chemical fertilizers or pesticides. There is also more training information on site you may wish to look at first.

Lucky you. Your bird is in love with you. I would probably love you if I showered with you every day also. My Amazon screams when I'm in the bathroom. Maybe that's why; she wants a shower. Personally I think birds scream to sound out or call in other birds, not to express unhappiness. When I talk to Anne from the other room she stops screaming.
