Can is it safe traveling with my parakeet from Germany to the US and then to Japan? We are moving this summer. Is it safe to take her with me and how much will it cost?

As Tracie said, check with airline companies and see what their regulations are. Usually, for the small birds, you can put them in a travel cage and take them with you as carry on. Do not have them put in cargo holds whatever you do because it is cold there and there is no additional oxygen. Some larger birds may be able to survivie this, and your Budgie will not. So, in each case, be sure and ask if your little bird can be taken onto plane as carry on luggage. Travel cage needs to be a size that would fit under seat.

Yes it is safe, but there are all kinds of things you need to find out before you can do it. I don't know all the regulations or fees. It depends on the airline you choose and what the regulations are for each country.

I suggest you contact the people at http://www.worldpettravel.com/ and let them help you with this.
