Tree Branch

I'm not sure what kind of tree this branch came from... but it's still green and has a fern/furry like substance on it. I know I have to at least let it dry. I just want to know if it's safe for my dusky headed conure. please respond

Tree branch

If you don't know what type of tree the branch came from, it's hardly worth the trouble of drying it out and baking it to put it in your birds' cage. As Tracie said, it could be full of germs from previous birds, fertilizer and other toxic substances. If you want a natural perch for your bird, the pet store has plenty of them to choose from and are all "bird approved" and ready to put in the cage. Be sure to get one that is sized correctly for your birds' feet; too small, they won't be able to grasp it and too big can cause foot problems.

What kind of tree branch for bird
by: Tracie

There is no telling if you don't know what kind of tree or if chemicals have been sprayed on it or if it has been fertilized. You also need to not use branches that wild birds have landed on due to bird diseases. I believe you can bake them somehow to kill bacteria, but look it up online to find out about that.

Here is our Toxic / Non-toxic for birds list if you figure out what kind of tree it is.
