Trying to feed his owner

I have an African Grey that I recently inherited from a family member and over the past couple of days he has been trying to feed me everytime I attempt to scratch his head for him. He puts his head down and then rubs his beak all over mey finger whilst trying to regurgitate food and feed me . Why does he do this?

Trying to feed his owner

This is a beautiful, loving way to show you how much he cares about you and the fact you took him in and have given him a home. Do no be alarmed as this is normal behavior, and it may be that he is also grieving the loss of his loved one if you inhereted him via someone's passing.Birds also grieve the loss of the old home. Sometimes the old home was not as good as the new one, and birds are creatures of habit and like the same routine everyday. He sounds very special, and you are very blessed to have him.

He also needs to be checked out by an Avian Vet as soon as you have time to make sure he is physically healthy. It is common for birds to succumb to some type of infection during the stress of moving and having to get used to a new home and people.

Thanks for writing, and this little birds sounds like he's going to be one of your Bestest Friends,
