Two Parrots

I have a 14 year old African Grey that I have had since she was a month old and we are very close. I am thinking about buying a male Eclectus and he is 7. I work all day and feel sad to leave my grey by herself all day but I don't want to do anything to jeopardise her happiness or health. What do you think?

African Grey with Eclectus?
by: Tracie

Hi Judy,

These questions are always soooo hard to answer. Only the birds know what they want, so we can't say what is best.

In my opinion, I think if you want another bird then you should get it. Many people have multiple bird homes.

It is very possible that the African Grey will enjoy the company of the Eclectus. It is also possible that it will mimic the call of the Eclectus, so remember that too. LOL

If you proceed with getting the Eclectus, then make sure you spend time with the Grey first when you get home, then the Eclectus. This will help the bird feel like it is still "top" bird.

If they do not seem aggressive toward each other, then you can just be a part of the flock and play with both of them, engaging them in a game with you.
