To the person that has posted a website for an alternative to vicks. The website is sort of a "link farm" to other websites, so I am not posting it. Please do not take offense. People just need to not use chemicals and strong essential oils around birds period. If the bird is sick, they need to see an avian vet.

Vicks Vapor & birds. by: Az
I keep my warm mist humidifier running for my birds simply bc it's winter and I have the heater on. The heater pulls moisture from the air, even the AC does as well.
Keeping it on just for your bird is very good for him. Prevents his skin from getting too dry, and itchy, which can sometimes lead to a plucky duck.
I however do not use any type of medications in the humidifier. Vicks is a waxed based solution which with the mist goes into the air. I personally dont use vicks for myself in a humidifier bc even for humans, breathing in that wax base is not good if used often.
If you need the vicks in a humidifier, please use it in another room where the bird cannot have access to breathing it.
If you choose to keep the humidifier running for your bird in btwn uses for yourself, be sure to clean it very well before turning it on for him, so that the solution is no longer in the tray.

Do NOT use Vicks vaporizer around birds by: The Avian Vet
Dr B recently answered this, "Humidifying the air is great for birds, but the Vicks should not be used with the bird in the room."
