violet male to a blue female ringneck

This is not a genetically solid breeding. Both the violet and the blue are what is called mutations and they possess many recessive genes which when put together will produce many potential problems in the offspring. Birth defects inside/outside possible weaker immune systems which will not equip them well for life. Odd feather and skin problems. The list is very long, and that's why it is important to understand the basics of genetics to make sure choices are beneficial for both you and your birds.

To help you understand basic genetics of the mutations here is a link back to a very good series of articles written with the beginner bird breeder in mind:

These articles will help you understand why breeding two mutations is not good breeding. They will also explain how to go about producing the healthiest, strongest babies while producing the colors.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
