The description of your bird bobbing his head and regurgitating is a supreme sign of affection, as he is treating you as his/her mate. this is a very good sign

Parrots will regurgitate when showing affection for their people, toys or sometimes even a car ride where they feel especially good.
Normally, there is no food or very little actual food that comes up. The thing that causes me concern here is the smell you spoke of.
If this happens again, and food comes up and you notice a bad smell, it can mean that bird may have an infection in his crop. The crop is where food is pre-digested before going into the stomach. In fact a lot of digestion takes place so food moves rather quickly through the system once it hits the stomach. If bird has an infection or some other physical problem where food does not digest properly in the crop, quite a bit of food will come up, and the smell is of food that has rotted in there without being fully digested or digested at all.
Keep a close eye on this, and if he does it again, with food, and the smell, you'll need to take him to an Avian Vet for an exam to check for infection or other physical problems in the crop.
In baby birds, this occurs when people feed their handfeeding formula too cold. Cold food will not digest properly in the crop, so always make sure food is room temperature before feeding anything to bird.
Keep a watch on this because infections can get out of control quickly with parrots, and they won't get over them without the intervention of an Avian Vet.
