weird cockatoo behavior?

My goffin cockatoo puts her butt in the air and when she's on my shoulder its almost like she's purposely putting her back end towards my face. I constantly have to turn her around. Is that normal?

weird cockatoo behavior?
by: Linda

If she is a few years old, this is simply breeding behavior. It does not mean anything unless she is sick and trying to show you something on or near her butt.

If she has not been examined by avian vet within the last year, now is the time to have her checked out, but this behavior alone is not a reason to do so.

Let her know you do not like this behavior by saying no when you turn her around. If she keeps doing it, put her in cage for a time out. There is training information on this site you may wish to look at, but this just sounds like normal breeding behavior to me and is nothing to worry over. Females like to show their really pretty butts while males like to strut around all stiff to show females or whoever happens to be looking how beautiful they are. A trip to the avian vet would be a good idea just in case she is trying to tell you something. Yearly visits are done to keep our birds healthy and not have to have any sick birds to treat.
