Weird Macaw Behavior

I have a 9-year old Miligold Macaw. There are times when he looks like if he were in a trance. His eyes dilate, he twitches, sometimes he repeatedly nods his head, then he attack his legs. Then he screams, and i don't know what is wrong with him. Sometimes he does the twitching and nodding after he talks.

Bird may have metal poisoning

Macaws have lots of body language we do not understand. However, if he has not been seen by an avian veterinarian within the last year, you should take him in for an exam. Primarily to be sure that he does not have lesions on his leg and to test him for diseases that cause similar types of behaviors. The ones I would most be concerned about is Avian Bornavirus, and heavy metal poisoning.
