Weird signs of a luntino lovebird

by Trina
(Ishpeming, Mi)

I have a 1 year old lutino lovebird that I got last Nov. When we first got her she learned to 'step up' and come to me very easily. Ever since I had to leave her for 2 weeks almost a month ago she has been showing weird signs that I'm not used to:

- Bobbing her head a lot and making a panting noise. To me it seems like she is just excited.

- Her feathers are always fluffed up and she preens a lot.

- Just today I put some paper in her cage and the next thing I know she is opening her beak really wide and staring at it. (Is she just happy to have something to shredded)

-She also no longer stays by us long when she is out of the cage and doesn't step up easily, so it is harder to put her back.

- Last thing, she sleeps a lot when we aren't playing with her. Should I try a new toy to keep her active.

Anything that you could tell me would be great. She is my first real pet on my own and I love her tons.

Signs of sickness in bird
by: Tracie

Dr B can not help with this, because your bird is showing signs of illness. He can not tell you what is wrong, because he can't examine your bird.

Please take your bird to an avian vet for an exam so that the exact treatment it needs will be prescribed.
