wet sneezes and breathing sounds

by Tiffany
(Michigan)

My quaker parrot is about 4 months old and is displaying some strange symptoms. Lately I have noticed that the area of feathers around one of his nostrils is wet from sneezing (I am assuming).

He is a big parrot for his species and his wings are clipped so that he can still fly a bit. Currently when he flies and lands on my shoulder, he is breathing hard like it took a lot of effort to get his big body moving, and his breathing sounds like a little whistle.

It is winter here in Michigan, and I am just wondering if maybe my little guy has a cold. Thanks for any insight.

Thanks! We took him a week ago Tuesday and he does have a bacterial infection. He is on antibiotics and a probiotic as well. He also had blood work done and we will find the results of that in a couple of days.

Bird sneezing and breathing sounds

Please take your bird to an avian vet ASAP. If your bird is having a hard time breathing, it may have a bacterial infection. Germs grow by the thousands every hour. Dr B can not determine what might be wrong over the Internet, your bird needs to be seen in person.
