Wet sneezes and head bobbing

by Zara
(Karachi)

My baby Cockatiel is about 4 weeks old now. She still seems to want her bird food in pasty form in a syringe,is that natural? Also, she sneezes a lot, sometimes wet sneezes. Does that mean she's sick? She is energetic though. Oh, and she bobs her head...almost all the time except when sleeping, why?

Wet sneezes and head bobbing

Your bird will not even be ready to begin the weaning process for another month. Yes, she is sick, and will die without being diagnosed and treated by an Avian Vet in your driving area. Baby birds with bacterial infections are quite common, and since they have no developed immune system, it is quite easy to contract an infection. Sometimes they have them from their parents if parents were not both examined for infections before breeding, and sometimes they get them anyway.

You will have to take her to an Avian Vet only as dog and cat vets are not licensed or trained in the care of birds and will either do nothing or do the wrong things and kill her. She is far too young to be diagnosed and treated by anyone other than an avian vet. Any kind of over the counter meds or home remedies will also kill her.

Thanks for writing and let us know what the avian vet has to say,
