What could have caused bubbah to die suddenly?

by Amanda
(Yuma)

My loving bubbah

My loving bubbah

My four month old cockatiel was healthy and tame and loving. I had bought him from cockatiels breeders. He ate all the time and he even came if you called his name he would also give us kisses. Last night he fell asleep by one of those fluffy things they sell the keeps them warm from drafts that they could climb in. he would never get in it. But when I woke up this morning he is dead and laid out. What would cause him just to die like that?

Young cockatiel died suddenly
by: Tracie

I am so sorry for your loss. How sad.

The only way to determine the cause of death is for you to take the bird to an avian vet for a necropsy.

So many things cause birds to die. It could have been sick when you brought it home, it could have breathed or chewed something toxic, there is just no knowing without an examination.

Please let your breeder know about this. I am hoping this is a reputable breeder that takes their birds to an avian vet. They should be taking their birds for regular yearly checkups and should offer to take the birds they are selling to an avian vet before selling them. If they don't do this, then they may be selling birds that have a disease or are sick.
