What does this mean

by Meelah
(Durham NC US)

I just put another parakeet in the cage together, they seem to be getting alone well. I have notice them grooming each other, but I also notice one taking his foot and grabbing the other bird, Is that normal?

What does this mean

Please never put a strange bird into cage with another one because they have to be in separate cages so they can see and get to know one another before they can live together in peace.

Budgies are highly aggressive birds, and what you are seeing is this aggression in action. New bird will kill your other bird if you don't separate them.

Bird grabbing another bird
by: Tracie

It could be aggression, it could be that you have a male and female, and that means you should separate them so you don't end up with eggs and babies.

Breeding is complicated and expensive. You will need money for avian vets to examine the birds, your bird may become egg bound if you are not feeding a high quality pellet diet like Harrison's and then the parents my attempt to kill the chicks or not feed them and you will have to hand feed the chicks day and night.
