i have him but we have a bond but i cant carry him on my arm he sometimes puts his feet out to me does that mean he wants to get on my arm or shoulder?

my african grey congo puts his feet to me but im scared he mite bite but i can scratch his head some times but i think he will bite me if i scratch his head so what should i do and hes only three years old

he wants to step up :)

when your African grey raises their foot and looks at you he is begging for you to offer him your finger or arm. If your first time for "step up" then offer your hand (at least 2 fingers he's a big boy) by moving them just above the foot and give a command(I say "come on darlin") Do not be shocked if while stepping up he uses his beak to balance himself. Yes he may grip a little harder then you like first few times but he is smart and wants to be touched by you so please give it a try.

African Grey putting head down

Some birds gently grab your finger to steady themselves when transitioning from their perch to your finger. You might have to work with the bird to not grab hard, but it is not unusual for a bird to hold something in transition.

I think the main thing is that you need to relax so that the bird does not feel your tension. Just be ready to put the bird back if it bites or hurts you. Say, "noooo" in a calm low voice no matter how much it hurts, and put him back in the cage and turn your back on him. Eventually he will get the picture.

Foot out, head down

He is initially telling you with his foot he wants to be picked up. If he puts his head down, typically this means he wants a head/neck scratch!! Your bird is just dying for some physical interaction and wants to be affectionate!! Dont be afraid, put your arm out and give him a good scratchin!!!!

Stepping up

Yes! He definitely wants to step up on your finger or shoulder if he puts out his feet to you. Mine does the same thing because she wants to be on my finger. :)
