what kind to buy

I totally agree with the first writer who answered your question. You have not done your study, and this will end up being a big mistake with any bird. Parrots are exotic wild animals and have to be understood before even thinking of getting one for a companion.

If you've not had experience with the larger birds, then either one is a mistake. Do your research on some of the smaller birds and learn from them before getting into the larger ones. Parrots are not domestic birds who will never do anything unpedictable, in fact, they are very unpredictable which can be downright dangerous in the hands of the inexperienced.

Do your homework on the smaller parrots and then if you feel ready to move up to a larger bird, then do even more homework on that.

Thanks for writing and happy learning,
Linda

Intentions?
by: Anonymous

First of all, what are your intentions with these birds when you have to ask "whats better"? Do research on both species to find what will best suit you and your lifestyle. Both are extremely smart birds and both can live 50+ years, but have entirely different personalities.

Greys are very emotionally sensitive, typically shy around strangers, and particularily bond to one person however tolerate others very well.

Amazons are loud, outgoing with show-off type personalities, and strongly bond to one person an usually do not tolerate others who try and mess with thier chosen human.

Both type birds need ALOT of attention and out of cage time, they will literally go crazy of they have to sit in a cage all day just because the owner thinks it is cool that they talk. So in conclusion, do research, and find a place whether its a breeder or shop who sells these birds and interact with them on different occasions to see what you get along with best. Goodluck.
