WHAT TO BRING MY NEW BIRD HOME IN?!?! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Hello,

I am buying a parakeet in 2 days. I have to drive almost 2 hours away though. This is the only place that had any hand fed ones for sale. Any suggestions on what to bring it home in?

What would be the best thing to keep it at a minimum stress level? Should I buy a travel cage? Or maybe bring a large shoe box with a soft towel in the bottom and poke holes in the top - or maybe even leave the top off. Please let me know. Any help will be very much appreciated. This is my first bird. Thanks!

A travel cage or a small cage would do... with maybe a towel to cover the cage... and if the bird is on a varied diet, get some fruits such as apples, grapes, etc to put in the cage for the travel.

when i got my first bird at 4 months old I let him ride on my shoulder for the 4 hour drive

Editors Note: This can be very dangerous for you and the bird.

1) The bird could flutter down to your feet and you could have an accident trying to get him.

2) If you have an accident while he is on your shoulder, he does not have a restraint to keep him from being flung into the windshield.

3) If the bird is flighted, it could fly into the windows or somewhere in the car and chew or eat something and you would not be able to help it.
