What type of parrot do I have?

by Nora
(New york)

My bird is mostly green. Light green and dark. The very top of his head and under/ around his beak is grey. His beak is a dull yellow/ brownish color. The bird was given to me and all I know is it's a boy, and he's a parrot. His age around 5 months.

Possibly a parrotlet
by: Tracie

Parrotlet possibly.

You can post the question again and attach a picture if you wish. You can also search on our Parrot Profiles page.

Since you were just given this bird, I wish to encourage you to convert the bird to a healthy pellet diet. I fed my first parrot, and it was a parrotlet, mostly a seed diet and it ended up with fatty liver disease. Then some uninformed person at the pet store said it needed vitamins and the vitamins in the water killed the bird.

Your bird should eat 80% high quality pellets like Harrison's or Roudybush pellets and only 20% healthy treats including seed.

lovebird
Grey headed lovebird
Brown headed parrot
Senegal Parrot
Cape Parrot

I am sure there are more....knowing the size of the parrot would narrow it down. A picture would be even more helpful as there are 100's of different mutations (colours) of parrots to choose from these days.

Hi there, can you please put a photo of your bird then we might be able to tell you something. You see many birds have similar colours and also look alike. With a picture we will at least see him. Thank you.
