my parakeet has started limping and just perching himself on the side of his food dish. he stays mostly at the bottom of his cage when not on the food dish. this has been going on for about two weeks. what could the problem be?

Bird needs an avian vet

You will need to Find an Avian Vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.

Excessive beak growth
by: Anonymous

My parakeet (male) less than five years old, has had excessive beak growth over the last couple of months. I have taken him to the vet twice to be trimmed and have been concerned about his ability to eat. He is now very lethargic. What could be wrong with him? I used a Dremmel to trim him myself and the beak fractured, but at the point where it is now a normal size and he has been able to eat. He's eating but sleeping alot. He has lost feathers on his forehead and face.

Parakeet limping and staying on bottom of cage

This means that your bird may have a tumor, fatty liver disease or an illness. You will need to Find an Avian Vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.

Since most people with budgies don't know that they should not feed them an all seed diet, they usually die of fatty liver disease or other illnesses or tumors. If you have any other birds, please read our Switching Birds To Pellets article or
Switching Budgies To Pellets article so that they will have the possibility of a long healthy life.
