when I feed my ring neck through the bars of my cage

I really don't understand your question. Birds are fed and watered from bowls inside the cage. Why you would be standing there feeding your bird is a big question mark here?

Do not feed bird through cage if bird does not like it. Allow your bird to teach you about what it likes and does not like which will show the proper respect for your bird and his likes and dislikes. If you continue to do something like this that your bird obviously dislikes, you will get bit and bites can either be a warning or a very bad bite.

So, make sure you have feeding stations inside the cage. One for food and one for water. Any treats like fruit or veggies can be put in feeding cup. Birds do not like new things, so use the regular feeding cup for any type of food. Since birds only drink water, there is never a reason for the water cup to have anything in it but water.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
