Where did my sweet B&G bird go

I have an 11 yr old blue and gold, i have had him for 10 yrs. My husband and I have had a wonderful time with him. He goes many places with us and has always been a love. Recently he has started screaming and throwing a tantrum all the time when we put him in his cage. He wants to be held all the time. He has also become very aggressive and started biting.

I am to the point of trying to find a place for him because he has gotten so out of control and I am becoming afraid of him. i am at a total loss. Could it be because it is spring and he wants to mate and is getting frustrated. Any suggestions or advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated

MY B and G has her fits too. IT will pass alls you can do is give him extra love!! mine likes to sleep with me,and when she dont get her way well ill just say she makes me pay for it. Please give him some time i know he loves you as much as you do him, he would be heart broken as well as you would be if you removed him from his HOME.. And besides you would only wonder if they would or could love him as you do.

Where did my sweet B&G bird go

I've raised Macaws and sudden changes in behavior sometimes indicate illness in beginning stages. Have your bird examined by an Avian Vet in your driving area to rule out physical causes for this new behavior before any training or changes in diet.

B&G macaw becoming aggressive
by: Tracie

I am so sorry this is happening. I guess the bird would sort of be coming into his teenage years. :-/

We have some training materials on our Parrot Training page but you may need a professional to help you.

It IS possible to teach the bird to have a different behavior. You basically teach the bird to do a different behavior by rewarding it when it does what you want it to do.
