white bump on GCC nostril

by Veronica
(Temecula, CA, USA)

My 5 1/2 month old green cheek conure, Daenerys, has developed a small white bump right on the edge of her nostril opening over the last couple weeks. She scratches at it very occasionally and is also going through a molt right now. Other than this, she's acting normally, eating normally, preening normally, pooping normally, sleeping and resting normally, etc. No odd behaviors at all. Just as feisty and curious as usual.

I couldn't get her to hold still for the picture (she likes to attack the camera) but the bump is smooth, white, and about the same diameter as the nostril itself.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

update on your bird
by: Anonymous

Hello,

Did your bird's bump on his nostril go away? I just noticed that my bird has that too and am unsure what it is exactly. Did you see a vet? Any information you could give me would be great. Thank you!

take her to a vet

Never chance something that you are unsure about. This may be a cyst, a tumor, or infection that could be worsening by the day. Find an avian vet who will look at your bird and treat it. If it were you and you had a strange bump growing on your face, would you ignore it, or have a doctor take a look? Think of it that way, dont ever assume it will go away on its own, because 99% of the time, it wont!

bird with bump on nare
by: Tracie

Dr B is not available to answer questions right now due to a personal emergency. He would not know what this is anyway, and would suggest you Find an Avian Vet to examine the bird to determine if this is an infection or something else.
