White skin around one eye is slightly pink on our conure

by David
(Chesterfield, England)

The white skin around our conures right eye has gone slightly pink and sore looking.

She does not react if we gently stroke her head and work gently around to the eye area.

Should we be concerned or is there a simple explanation and cure.

Also do you know where our nearest avian vet is please.

We are in Chesterfield, England

Many Thanks
David

Pink around eye on bird
by: The Avian Vet

It is enough of a concern that you should have it looked at by an avian veterinarian. If you use a full spectrum light, then it may be a "sun burn". If not, it could be a small injury from playing with her toys. It may be an infection or just a skin blemish. You should have it looked at.

Birds should visit a veterinarian annually for check ups and vaccines any way. And since she is a new purchase, she especially should go. You cannot just look at a bird to determine if they are completely healthy. They need veterinary care, too.

Same!!

My 6 month old green cheek, Harry, has the same thing!! He's got a lot of new feathers around his eye at the moment so I thought he might have scratched it or something. Did you ever find out what was wrong?

My young black capped Conure has a sore eye and sounds very similar to what you have.
Did you get any responses back yet
