Bird on bottom of cage.

You don't say what type of bird it is, or how old it is. I have a female lorikette and she has done this since I found her at 8 weeks old. I don't know for sure, but I think she thinks its her nest still, and that perhaps I am her mother. I put newspaper in layers on the bottom and she loves to get under about 4 or 5 sheets, especially in winter. She lives inside the house. There are about as many papers beneath her so as she isn't laying on the bare tray.
I would still consult an avian vet to be sure there isn't a problem. Hope it works out well for you both.

It is possibly ill and too weak to perch. Please Find an Avian Vet for your bird right away.
