Why did my budgie die?

My brother had a budgie that we had for about 6 months before it died. The bird showed no signs of being sick the day before. Today he was at the bottom of his cage, in the corner stiff, he was barely alive and died shortly after we picked him up. I do not know why he died and was hoping you could help me out.

To me the bird seemed abnormally small his body was only about 3" or 3 1/2" long including his tale he was almost 7". He also had a deformed back toe that flipped up not curled down. This bird was hand tamed and was sold to us for only $15 is it possible that the breeder knew this was a sickly bird?

When we got him he was fully feathered and loved being petted but after about a month he started to get some new feathers and suddenely didnt like to be petted, I know these feathers can be painful but i didn't know if there could be more to it. But his diet was not as good as i would have hoped my brother never gave him fruits and veggies so i would put them in his cage once or twice a week and he would usually eat all of them.

He was usually given alot of seed but he didnt always add more each day maybe every other day and he always had water. If this sounds like it is our fault our budgie died please let me know what we can do different in the future. Thank you for your time.

Hi.
my budgie died 2day. he was ill and stayed shaking on the bottem. i picked him up (you could never do that, he would freak and bite, not tame) then he slowly died in my hands. 2day is the worst. his name was artum. and now he is in the garden.

My budgie looks sick and im worried i hope he is not dead on the floor when i wake up :(
He hasnt been eating much...
And hasnt been doing much of activety Hope he dont die D;

egg binding in birds

Cuttle bone does not add calcium to your bird's diet. The best prevention for egg binding is feeding a diet 80% Harrison's and 20% healthy treats.

Thanks for your input. I immediately looked in to having an autopsy done but we could not afford. I just cant help but feel this is our fault because this is our second failed bird. I had a cockateil but after about two years it became eggbound and they told me calcium deficiancy but i always had a cuddle bone in there she just would not eat it.

Budgie death

I am sorry your budgie died. That is sad. I cannot tell you why he died. If it is not too late you should have an autopsy performed to see if the reason can be found.

There are many reasons why this could have happened. It sounds like you were ding all of the right things, but I would need more history to be able to day so definitively. The breeder may not have known the bird had any problems.

The first thing to do with your next bird is see an avian veterinarian to be sure you are starting with a healthy bird. Be sure to feed a good pellet diet, like Harrison's, to be sure it has all of the right nutrition and supplement with fruits an vegetables as you have mentioned.
