why did my parrot die suddenly?

5 days ago a friend noticed some blood running from the air holes on my small 13 year old parrot. He had not been taken out of his cage so I don't think he hit his beak on anything. He had 2 sneezing attacks where a bit of blood came out his air holes. I was out and had no way to get home, when I got home a few hours later, he seemed to be ok.

I kept a close eye on him and he seemed to be ok after that. He was eating, had water, was in the same environment that he has been in for years, covered at night etc.

I watching him and took him out of his cage several times during the week, he seemed normal. We live in the tropics and it's winter now but it hasn't been very cold. 5 days later we found him dead in his cage when we woke up. Do you know what might have killed him?

Parrot died suddenly after sneezing blood
by: Tracie

There is no telling without a necropsy being done on the bird. It may have had a bad infection or a tumor or something else. A trip to the avian vet when the bird sneezed blood would have been the best thing for your bird. I am sorry for your loss.

You can Find an Avian Vet to do a necropsy if you wish to investigate this further.
