Why does he keep his eye closed

I own a blue and gold macaw he is about twenty years of age and today I noticed that one of his eyes was closed. I asked him to open it but he just barely did and it looked fine. Do you know what it could be?

It could be that something got stuck in it's eye, something injured his eye, an infection, or something else.

Provide water for bathing, and don't leave the water out for more than 4 hours, so the bird doesn't drink or bathe in bacteria water. If something is stuck in the eye, it's possible a bath will help it come out.

If the eye still doesn't open, then make an appointment for an avian vet examination.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link if you don't already have an avian vet.
