Why does my bird bite me and not my husband?
by: Joe

He doesn't like you.>:-D Just kidding. She most likely bites you for one of 2 reasons. She is the same sex as you and does not want you around as a challenge for her mate(your Hubby). If you jerk back real fast, make noises or anything else to show pain then he/she is doing it because he/she is getting a song and dance out of you. When you get bit it is important to not react strongly to it. As calmly as you can get him/her to let you loose and then put him/her in a time out cage with no food or toys but water. This means you need one more cage and it can be a small one since it will only be used for 2 to 5 minutes at a time. When you put him/her in the cage turn your back or walk out of the room for the time out. This is bird talk for I don't like you.

Understanding why your bird bites
by: Tracie

Hello Missy,

Your Green Cheeked Conure may be cage territorial. Many birds do not like you to get in their cage or mess with their "things."

Sometimes their "things" are your things! LOL What I do with my Conure who bites me when in it's cage, is I let her out on top of the cage before changing out bowls or toys.

I have an article about biting at http://www.parrot-and-conure-world.com/parrot-training.html if you have other bird biting problems.

Thanks for posting such a great question!

Tracie
