Wild Lorikeet with something on beak

2 lorakeets feed on my balcony firstly 1 and now the other have what looks like gum stuck to their beak? is it sap from a tree or a beak condition. looks brown and grey like old chewing gum, hope some one is not being cruel.


I would appreciate help

A lot of the time you can find wild lorikeets with 'lumps' on their beaks & all it is is just dirt that you can usually just get off with your finger nail.

Whatever it is, it is not normal in any way. It could very well be chewing gum someone either put in feed or they picked off the ground. Either way, there is nothing you can do about it short of catching them both and taking them to an Avian Vet. The gum should eventually wear off, and we can only hope it does not get into the feathers as it will cause lots of problems there. Birds usually do not get tree sap on them to this degree though it could be I guess.

Keep us posted on how this goes, and hopefully this was an accident and not on purpose.
