Cyst on wing

Our cockatiel. Has a wing abscess that has grown and is rubbing away his feathers beneath it. Biopsy was inconclusive what can I do to help him. Vet says to leave it as long as he is comfortable. He is 15 years old.
The cyst rubbing has caused a bald spot on his body. Any ideas to help him. Thanks.

He Passed
by: Michael

Unfortunately the mass opened and my parents were unable to stop the bleeding even with quick clotting chemicals. My poor baby passed away in my fathers arms. This is a devastating blow and I will miss him more than words can explain. He was like a little brother to me, and I hope everyone cherishes their time with their babies. I don't know what to say... I will always love you Vageta.

Avian Vet

We took him to an avian vet, and they did a fine needle aspiration of the mass. Three slides of cells were procured. He originally started on Baytril 20mg/mL, and from my understanding of human medicine, antibiotics alone won't cure an abscess. I am wrong to transpose this onto veterinary medicine? My mother has been trying to put warm compresses on him, but we don't want to stress him. Any other suggestions?

Cockatiel with abscess under wing
by: Tracie

You need to find an avian vet, so the test will not be inconclusive, but determine if this is cancer, an infection or what it is. The treatment will be different for each finding.

Dr B can not diagnose over the Internet nor can he offer a second opinion about treatment options without conclusive tests.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird.

Wing Abscess
by: Michael

Another note: he does not seem to be in pain or discomfort, except for maybe the rubbing on his belly. He is eating normally and basically hasn't changed his daily routine of running around with his brother. I am concerned and sad because I hate seeing any of my babies in discomfort or pain. He is an angel and I would do anything to help him. Thanks for your help.
