Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot

My find that once a while, my Yellow Naped seems to be breathing like its continuous yawning or vommiting like stretching its neck. This happens like 8-10 time. I've seen this like 3 times in the last 7 months. Other than that symptom, everything seems to be normal. Please let me know if my bird need mediacl attention.

Editor's note: In the future if you want people to see and answer, you need to post a question, not an answer here to another question, on our Parrot Questions page.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.

Hello and thank you for writing. Sounds like your parrot may be trying to feed either you or a favorite toy. They act like they are vomiting which is the way a Mother bird feeds her babies, and it is called regurgitation. It does not happen ALL the time, just when they feel loving toward a favorite person or toy or even another pet you may have that bird has become attached to.

If your bird is eating good and has a lot of energy there probably is not a physical problem. If your bird sits fluffed up and is too quiet or is not eating and playing like he should then he may be sick.

The signs of illness are lack of energy and not playing and talking, not eating as much as he did before, sitting with all his feathers fluffed up or has poop sticking to him under his tail. If you have seen any of these signs recently, then your bird needs to be taken to an Avian (Bird) vet in your area.

If you do not see any of those signs, then your bird is probably just trying to feed you or sometimes they will try and feed a favorite toy. This is a loving action, and means bird is happy and content.

Be sure and read all the signs of illness in birds, and if you've seen one or more of them, then your bird may be sick.

Thank You so much for writing and for loving your bird. We are always here to talk with you about your bird, and so feel free to write us again. Thank You for the beautiful picture of your Yellow Nape as he is a lovely bird! I have two Amazons, and they are Red-Lored Amazons and are smaller than your bird. I love them very much.
